IELTS Structure

IELTS is formatted in four main areas for assessing English proficiency. Reading, speaking, writing and listening skills in English are assessed for the test taker. The scores are then awarded numerically in bands.

All test takers are placed in a nine-band scale where a non-user would be Band 1, and an expert would is labelled as Band 9.
